Tesla’s Gigafactory in Texas is now producing several thousand Model Y electric vehicles per week, thanks to the new 4680 battery cell and structural battery pack. While the exact production numbers are unknown, sources suggest that Tesla is capable of producing at least 2,000 Model Ys per week at the plant since adding the Long Range version to its production line. This ramp up is a significant milestone for Tesla, which invested billions of dollars in the Texas factory and requires volume production to recoup the investment. However, there are concerns over the battery cell production, with some buyers being told that the Long Range version is equipped with 2170 cells instead of the new 4680 cell format. Despite this, recent drone footage shows that the factory is ramping up production, with Tesla preparing 300 Model Ys for delivery in the parking lot. As electric vehicles become increasingly popular, Tesla is well-positioned to dominate the industry by increasing production at its state-of-the-art, cutting-edge factories.
