Tesla brings on board AMD’s machine learning expert to lead Autopilot’s self-learning technology

Tesla has made another high-profile addition to their Autopilot team, Junli Gu, a machine learning expert from chip maker AMD. With the release of the Autopilot’s self-learning capabilities, Gu’s expertise in big data, and machine learning is sure to be a valuable addition to Tesla’s team. Gu joins other machine learning experts, including Sr Machine Learning Engineer Alexander Mott, a former CERN researcher, and Berta Rodriguez-Hervas, a machine learning expert who previously worked on autonomous driving at Mercedes’ Silicon Valley R&D center. The Autopilot system’s new data feeds are enabling Tesla to create “high precision maps” and the entirety of the fleet is sending over 1 million miles worth of data for Tesla to work with. As Tesla continues to hire elite talent for the Autopilot team, it’s clear that the company is set on leading the self-driving car revolution.
