Another high-ranking Tesla executive is set to depart the company. Jan Oehmicke, who was hired by the automaker a year ago to lead its European operations, has announced that he is leaving. Oehmicke had been with BMW for almost two decades before joining Tesla last year. The departure is the latest in a string of high-level staff exits at the electric vehicle pioneer. Last week, Tesla lost its head of production, while two manufacturing executives left the company earlier in the year. Several other executives have also departed in recent months.

Tesla has yet to comment on Oehmicke’s departure, but reports indicate that Sascha Zahnd, Vice-President Global Supply Chain at Tesla, is set to replace him at the head of the company’s European operations. Oehmicke’s departure comes after the recent introduction of the Model 3 in the European market. The move to replace him in the aftermath of this roll-out might indicate that the Californian firm is looking to take a more aggressive stance in Europe in order to compete with long-established automakers in the region.

The reason for Oehmicke’s departure remains unclear at this stage, and no official announcement has been made. It is likely, however, that his departure will raise further questions over the direction of the company and unsettle investors. For Tesla, it is yet another setback as the company tries to consolidate its position as a leading light in the electric vehicle market.
